US asked to stop operations

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Terming the recent incidents of civilian casualties in Afghanistan against the ongoing efforts for peace, Hamid Karzai on Monday asked the US to stop its military operations.

Hamid Karzai expressed concern over civilian casualties caused as a result of ground operations and airstrikes in Sangin district of Helmand and Marawara district of Helmand province.

Such brutal incidents inflicted casualties and losses of properties on the Afghan civilians, the former president said, adding that these actions were in contradiction with the ongoing efforts for peace.

“No other path leads to peace except negotiations and understanding. We urge the United States of America to stop its military operations in Afghanistan, and increase efforts and cooperation for peace rather than conducting bombardment on the houses of civilians,” Karzai said.

The former president offered condolence to the bereaved families of the recent incidents.

During his government Hamid Karzai would condemn the bombardments of foreign forces causing casualties to civilians in Afghanistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that over 20 civilians were killed as a result of airstrikes in Sangin district of Helmand province two days ago. Similarly, three civilians were killed during operation in Marawara district of Kunar province the other day. (AIP)
