US envoy calls on Finance Adviser Hafeez Shaikh

ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan Paul W Jones called on the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in Islamabad on Friday.

According to a press release from the finance ministry, the meeting discussed bilateral ties and underlined the need to further expand the scope of cooperation for the mutual benefits of the two countries.

Finance Adviser Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh briefed the US envoy about the steps being taken by the government for macroeconomic stabilisation and putting the economy on a sound footing.

Dr Hafeez Shaikh also apprised the US ambassador about measures the government was taking with reference to its international commitment on Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The meeting emphasised on restructuring bilateral ties and focusing on promoting private sector and investment relationship.

Dr Hafeez Shaikh said Pakistan had a long history of relationship with the United States and both sides were required to further promote linkages between the people of the two countries. He said that Pakistan offered a friendly environment for investment and US businesspersons should benefit from investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Ambassador Jones congratulated the finance adviser on assuming of charge of the federal finance ministry. He reiterated that economic and commercial relations between the two countries needed to be further strengthened.
