US, Russia and World

Written by The Frontier Post

The US lashed heavy assault on Russia by imposition of new economic sanctions against it. Department of States said that the United States hold the Russian Government to account for the recent cyber-attacks on Several US Departments namely SolarWinds intrusion, reports of bounties on U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, and attempts to interfere in the US electios-2020. It further said that the U.S. Department of the Treasury is issuing an Executive Order prohibiting US financial institutions from investing in the primary market for new ruble or non-ruble denominated bonds issued after June 14, 2021 by Russian State Financial Institutions. This Executive Order would also enable the U.S. Government to expand sovereign debt sanctions on Russia as appropriate. United States covered another mile and announced expulsion of 10 Russian Diplomatic Officials representing Russian Intelligence in Russian Mission in Washington DC, out of its country and imposed sanctions against entities and individuals involved in election interference or support the malign activities of the Russian intelligence services responsible for the SolarWinds intrusion and other recent cyber incidents.

Under the same move, US Treasury sanctioned 32 entities and individuals carrying out Russian government-directed attempts to influence the US Presidential Election-2020, and other acts of disinformation and interference. US Treasury also designated six Russian tech companies that provide support to the Russian Intelligence Services’ cyber program against the United States. Treasury, in partnership with the European Union, UK, Australia, and Canada, sanctioned eight individuals and entities associated with Russia’s ongoing occupation and repression in Crimea. Further, United States has formally named the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), also known as APT 29, Cozy Bear, and The Dukes, as the perpetrator of the broad-scope cyber espionage campaign that exploited the SolarWinds Orion platform and other information technology infrastructures.

The United States responded to a wide spectrum of Russian Intelligence activities which were aimed at spying into US government Departments, recent intrusion operation of Solar winds which targeted more than 16000 computer systems of US government Departments, private firms and its NATO allies. The Russian proved to be very cunning and remained successful in getting ingress into American systems. Russia had avoided direct contact with Americans, but its Intelligence Service remained active inside the US, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Afghanistan. Russian successfully neutralized United States policies in Libya, Syria and the Middle East. Russia is playing an equal role in Afghan Peace process apparently in step with the US, however, this Russian role is not likely digestible to the Americans. Therefore, they responded to the prophesies of alleged bounties for attacks on American Soldiers in Afghanistan.

Interestingly, United States responded swiftly against Russia on alleged interference in its internal matters, however, in the same go it also committed similar violation into Russian domain and in the case of Russian opposition leader Aleksey Navalny. US expressed concerns about Navalny’s health, treatment in prison, and demanded his unconditional release from Russian prison. However, American sympathy is likely to harm the Navalny rather providing some relief to him. The United States is lashing out at its opponent through wide range economic sanctions; however, these sanctions are indirectly affecting the most countries of the world, particularly US allies, EU, Canada, and others. The United States had plunged other countries in a testing situation through unlimited sanctions against its rivals. It is suggestable that US must limit its polices to its enemies and itself, avoid such polices which indirectly damage others countries, businesses and the larger interest of the World’s population.
