US stock exchanges mixed to kick off June

NEW YORK (AA): Major stock exchanges in the US opened Monday on a mixed note to kick off the month of June.

The Dow Jones was down 68 points, or 0.18%, to 38,617 at 10.05 a.m. EDT (1405GMT). The blue-chip index on Friday jumped 1.51% to mark its best daily performance of 2024.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, rose 10 points, or 0.19%, to 5,287. The Nasdaq added 103 points, or 0.62%, to 16,838.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, added 1.7% to 13.13. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 2.5% to 4.405%.

The dollar index shed 0.13% to 104.53, while the euro added 0.36% to $1.0880 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.56% to $2,340 per ounce and silver increasing 0.26% to $30.46.

Oil prices were down around 2.1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $79.48 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $75.26.
