NEW YORK (AA): Major exchanges in the US stock market opened Wednesday on a mixed note.
The Dow Jones was down almost five points, or 0.1%, to 39,868 at 9.49 a.m. EDT (1349GMT). The S&P 500, meanwhile, decreased less than a point to remain flat at 5,321.
The Nasdaq, on the other hand, increased 12 points, or 0.07%, to 16,845.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.34% to 11.90. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.31% to 4.428%.
The dollar index added 0.08% to 104.74, while the euro shed 0.14% to $1.0840 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in the red, with gold losing 0.44% to $2,410 per ounce and silver decreasing 1.35% to $32.24.
Oil prices were down around 1.4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $81.82 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $77.62.
