US Vice President to visit UAE on May 16 to meet new president

WASHINGTON DC (T-ASS): US Vice President Kamala Harris will visit Abu Dhabi on May 16 and meet with the new Pres-ident of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Moham-med bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This is stated in the statem-ent of the apparatus of Ha-rris, distributed on Saturday.
As follows from the document, the US Vice President will lead the American delegation and “express condolences from the administration of [US President Joe] Biden and Harris and from the American people” in connection with the death of the previous UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
At a meeting with Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Harris will “emphasize the strength of partnership between countries.” She will also highlight the US desire to ensure “further deepening of ties in the coming months and years.”
As The Wall Street Jo-urnal reported in March , Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Moham-med bin Salman Al Saud refused a telephone conversation with Biden, who wanted to discuss the situation around Ukraine and the possibility of increasing oil production to reduce world prices for hydrocarbons.
Also, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will travel to UAE today [Sunday] to pay his condolences following the death of the President of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Prime Minister issued a statement yesterday on the news of Sheikh Khalifa’s passing: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi.”
“He was a wise and respected leader who will be missed enormously. Through his work as President and Sheikh he has made a personal contribution to regional stability and conservation which will long be remembered.”
