US$1.6b World Bank funded KWSSIP to improve water supply & Sewerage system of Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government and Chairman Karachi Water & Sewerage Board Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said provision of better civic facilities to citizens of Karachi was among the top priorities of the Sindh government and added that reforms were being introduced in KW&SB to transform it into viable and financially stable institution. He said this while presiding over the meeting of the board of directors of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board.

Secretary Local Government Syed Najam Ahmed Shah, Administrator KMC Laiq Ahmed, Secretary Planning and Development Shireen Mustafa, MD KW&SB Asad ullah Khan, PD KWSSIP Ayoub Shaikh, Dr. Noman Ahmed, Vice Chancellor NED University Dr. Soroush Hashmat Lodhi, Chartered Accountant Zafar Sobani, Former Secretary Abdul Kabir Qazi, Dr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari Mehran University Jamshoro, Dr. Noshin H Anwar IBA Karachi, Junaid Makda KCCI and others attended the meeting.

The Provincial Minister  said that Karachi Water & Sewerage Services Improvement Project costing 1.6 billion US$ has been Launched with cooperation of World Bank which will improve the infrastructure of Karachi in terms of water supply and improvement of drainage system of city.

MD, KW&SB Asadullah Khan, briefed the meeting regarding overall performance of the organization, civic services and the steps taken to address the issues and grievances of citizen related to the water supply and drainage of Karachi residents. He said that work is being done on a practical and concrete basis to improve the supply and drainage system in the city, immediate redressal of grievances and resolution of the problems faced by the consumer of water board.

Ayub Sheikh, Project Director, Karachi Water and Sewerage Service Improvement Project, also gave a detailed briefing on the Project. He thanked Minister for Local Government and Chairman Water Board Syed Nasir Hussain Shah for the continued support and cooperation on the mega project for the city and hoped that this cooperation would continue in the future as well.

During the meeting, the board took important decisions after a long deliberation. The board decided to form sub-committees on Audit, Finance and Development and HR comprising members of the  Board to significantly enhance the performance of the Water Board, further improve the affairs of the institution and provide better facilities to the customers.
