United States Secretary of States Tony Blinken took on task both Russia and China during a TV program “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd on NBC on Sunday. Blinken said that it would be serious mistake for China to strike at Taiwan. While giving details Blinken explained that Americans have a commitment to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act, a bipartisan commitment that’s existed for many, many years, to make sure that Taiwan has the ability to defend itself, and to make sure that we’re sustaining peace and security in the Western Pacific. While expressing his resolve Blinken said, we stand behind those commitment. In the same go, while responding to program’s host Blinken said that United States have real concerns about Russia’s massing of forces on the border with Ukraine. Although, Blinken displayed his full anger over two great adversaries of the America but Remained short of military intervention and only informed America’s revils about consequences.

Presently, United States is following an aggressive policy to its two cold war stanch revils Russia and China because both Countries are creating challenges for it’s supremacy at International level. United States has adapted haunting policy against it’s opponents through trade war, economic sanctions, human rights designations and containing their influence at regional and international level. In military domain, besides formation of alliances like Quad Security Dialogue, it has defense cooperation with States having conflicts with it’s both rivals Russia and China.

On other hand, both Russia and China would not digest this American warning and likely to respond more swiftly and bluntly. In case of Taiwan, China considers Taiwan as a part of its territory, since the Mao Zedong’s revolution took over China in 1949. As a matter of fact, United States ceased it’s diplomatic relations with Taiwan (Republic of China) in 1979, when it recognized and established normal diplomatic relations with Peoples Republic of China.

Earlier, United States has been a supporter of one China policy and did not established formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The US relations were governed by Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) and an informal and unofficial relations were established through American Institute Taiwan, whereas Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) was providing necessary services in the US. In March 2018, United States Congress passed Taiwan Travel Act and US established formal relations with Taiwan. Gradually, United States buildup it’s relations and high level US officials paid visit to Taiwan during last 2-3 years. China has been lodging strong protest against the US Taiwan increasing intimacy.

However, United States maintained military relationship with Taiwan and sold military hardware including state of the art F-16 to Taiwanese Air Force in the past. In Case of Russia, Putin’s government seized the region of Crimea in 2014, and there has been fighting along the borders over the years. United States and it’s European allies supported the Ukraine in it’s war with Russia.

Although, Blinken echoed prominently to attract attention of the world, however, it would have only symbolic impact on the position. Both Countries are not ready to budge at Blinken’s call. China has better moral and diplomatic position in Taiwan case. On Russian side, it ceased Crimea in 2014 and not ready to give in. United States is not in position to involve militarily and likely to provide diplomatic and material support to its both allies Taiwan and Ukraine. Apparently, Blinken warning is an effort to heat the situation.
