Use of chemical weapons are not acceptable: Mattis

Monitoring Desk

WASHINGTON: US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has said that use of chemical weapons in Syria is unacceptable and there is no excuse for it, at least 40 people were killed in a suspected poisonous attack in Syria last week.

The international media outlet reported that the United States, France and Britain are planning for an expected strike against the regime of Assad and they also blamed Syrian government for alleged chemical attack in Eastern Ghouta town.

Mattis told the House Armed Services Committee that some actions and incidents are not acceptable in any manner and we need to put behind our interest and work for the stopping such incidents.

He added that use of chemical weapons is against the civilization itself and adding that chemical attack had likely occurred and US is looking for the actual evidence.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday strongly condemned and threatened a strong response and said that they had proof that Damascus is behind the deadly chemical attack in Eastern Ghouta town.

However, Syria and Russia have both denied the accusations, and the global chemical weapons watchdog said its team would begin its investigation on Saturday.

Mattis informed the lawmakers that president Trump has not yet made a decision to strike Syria and adding that US are trying to stop the murder of innocent people.
