King of Tonga evacuated from palace after volcanic eruption

MOSCOW (RIA Novosti): The king of the Polynesian island nation of Tonga, Aho-Eitu Tupou VI, was evacuated from the palace as large waves hit the capital Nuku’alofa after the volcanic eruption, New Zealand radio RNZ reported .

Earlier, the local news portal Matangi Tonga reported on the eruption of the Hunga Haapai volcano in the South Pacific island nation of Tonga . Authorities have issued a tsunami warning. A tsunami threat was also declared in American Samoa , where over a hundred families were evacuated from villages on the south side of Sawaii Island due to large waves.

It is noted that a convoy of police and military brought the king to the villa, local residents were advised to stay away from the coast and move to higher ground. In addition to the territory of the palace, the embankment and the main street were flooded in the capital, radio reports.
