Website for KP commission on status of women inaugurated

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on Status of Women (KPCSW) has inaugurated a web portal aimed at promoting women empowerment agenda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Neelam Toru, Chairperson, KPCSW, Qamar Naseem, Program Coordinator, Blue Veins and Abdul Qadir, Coordination Officer, KPCSW shared their views regarding need and significance of online presence for KPCSW.

Ms. Neelum Toru, Chairperson of KPCSW stated that the website launch and the robust information it provides for the public, other government/non-government departments and media to better understand our vision, mission and mandate.

She said that we believe that this website will allow our visitors to have useful information as we continue to grow and increase our efforts to oversee implementation of laws, policies and programs related to women and propose new measures where gaps exist, saying that she also explained the nature and scope of work of the KPCSW.

The launching ceremony of KPCSW website, was organized by Blue Veins under a project “policy advocacy and research to strengthen implementation of pro-women legislation and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) response services in KP” with assistance from Australian Government and Trócaire at Peshawar press club on Tuesday.

Staff members of BV further elaborated the different aspects of the website and answered queries asked by participants. The website features a user-friendly interface with up-to-date information on the KPCSW.

On the Occasion, Qamar Naseem Program Coordinator Blue Veins said “National human rights institutions (NHRIs) are now, beyond a doubt, valued as essential actors in the task of protecting and promoting human rights at the national and regional levels.

He added that to this end, they must work with one another to meet evolving developments and challenges in the exercise of human rights by all.

Abdul Qadir, Coordination Officer, KPCSW shed light on the proposed tentative future initiatives in relation to the online presence of the KPCSW. The Commission has drawn up a plan to encapsulate the widest scope of actions and goals that may be achieved through the website.

He maintained that key element in the plan is to develop a forum through the website to enable members of the general public to record their complaints and recommendations so that the Commission may act upon them as per its mandate.

The website has been developed in lines with the principles of public access to information. It will serve as a bridge between the public and KPCSW on the issues related to women.
