Wheat shortage hits federal capital

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital Islamabad was hit by the wheat shortage as well the wheat prices surged in different markets on Thursday The Frontier Post has learnt.

According to the details the 25-kg fine wheat price in market was 1250 but now with increase of 200 rupees the fine wheat is available in 1450 according to the visits made by this scribe in different markets of the capital. The government wheat price of 20 kg was 805 rupees in market but this wheat isn’t available in any market of the federal capital.

A shop owner Ahmad told The Frontier Post that the government wheat isn’t available in market but the 25kg fine wheat is available in market on high price. He added that the shortage surface in market due to higher demand of the customers and those purchasing 40 kg wheat per month purchased more than 100 kg on a single day that’s why the wheat shortage emerged in the market.

Ali Usman a resident of Islamabad told that government isn’t responsible for the shortage because supply is in process just like normal days but people purchased more items including wheat from market.

Deputy Director Food Islamabad Iqbal Yousaf told The Frontier Post that capital administration all teams are in field and they are ensuring the availability of the wheat in market but due to the demand the market is facing little bit shortage which will be overcome soon. He added that this time on sites and wheat is supplying to the whole market on nominal rates like normal days and no one will be allowed for hoarding or over pricing from people.

He added that the fine atta prices totally depending on the wheat prices day by day and no government rates are applicable on this wheat although he clarified that there will be no shortage in market and wheat will be available in all markets on normal rates.
