Where we are going today: ‘Amar’ authentic Lebanese fine dining

Nada Hameed

If you are in Jeddah and crave an authentic Lebanese fine dining experience, look no further than Amar.

Amar, which means “the moon” in the Arabic Lebanese accent, provides a culinary experience that combines traditional flavors with a contemporary touch.

Situated in the vibrant heart of Jeddah’s Tahliah Street, the restaurant offers a luxurious interior adorned with an artistic ceiling inspired by the sky, clouds and, of course, the moon.

The design comes to life through the creative genius of internationally renowned Italian artist Jacopo Foggini.

During my weekend visit, I was serenaded by the timeless songs of Lebanese singer Fairuz, as the playlist showcased a medley of her greatest hits.

With both indoor and outdoor seating options available, I chose to bask in Jeddah’s afternoon sunlight while relishing my meal.

For starters, I had the super smooth and creamy hummus, perfectly spiced batata harrah (seasoned fries) and the delightfully tangy fattoush – a true joy for the taste buds that left me wanting more.

Opting for the lamb chops as my main course, I was presented with six expertly grilled cuts wrapped in a piece of flatbread, accompanied by a side of hummus. The tenderness of the meat, combined with the rich, flavorful taste of the grill, provided a truly delightful experience. However, I would suggest replacing the hummus with a garlic sauce for the perfect bite.

I also tried the lamb gigolettes, served with aromatic Arabian spiced rice — the portion was substantial and suitable for two.

Saving room for dessert, I ordered halawet el-jibn, a delicacy made from semolina and cheese dough, filled with cream. Originating from Hama in Syria, this dessert is a sweet sensation found in various regions across the Middle East.

The menu also features a selection of other Middle Eastern sweets, including umm ali, mafrouka, date cake, baklava and kunafa.
