Women to run canteens in girl’s schools and colleges

MIRPUR: Commissioner Mirpur division, Ch. Muhammad Tayyab has said that only women will be granted contracts for running canteens in the government girls schools and colleges in all three districts of Mirpur division.

Talking to APP here on Sunday, he revealed that the step was being taken to materialize the plan for women empowerment through ensuring their participation in self-employment opportunities– besides to abandon the direct accesses of male persons in canteens.

It would be, indeed, the pilot project in AJK to encourage and boost the confidence among the women, aspirant of working independently, to meet their livelihood besides the male persons of their families”, Muhammad Tayyab said.

Divisional Commissioner said that new contracts would be granted to females through open auction after inviting them through stipulated advertisements in the regional and national newspapers.

The project, he added, had been taken in hand with immediate effect and new contracts to the female applicants would be granted after expiry of the ongoing contracts.
