World diabetes Day observed in KTH

PESHAWAR: Department of Medicine, Khyber Teaching Hospital marked World Diabetes Day to create awareness among general public. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2017 is Women and Diabetes.
There was public awareness interactive session on diabetes for nurses, paramedics and general public in KTH. Prof Dr Shahid Jamil and Dr Inam Ullah gave a detailed presentation on “diabetes and women” and “diabetes, its management”.
The event was grace by Chairman Medicine Department Prof Dr Humayun Khan, Prof Dr Hashim Uddin Azam Khan, Prof Dr Ghulam Shabir and large number of faculty staff, managerial staff, TMOs’, HOs’, nursing and paramedics staff, health professionals and general public.
A week long free medical camp at Medical OPD KTH for general public awareness about diabetes and screening test for HBA1C and blood sugar was done in the camp.
According to World Diabetes Day Organization there are currently over 199 million women living with diabetes and total is projected to increase to 313 million by 2040. Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally, causing 2.1 million deaths each year.
