World Kidney Day observes, 20m people kidney patient in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: In every ten women one woman is kidney patient across the globe while in Pakistan in every four women among the age group of 50-60 years one woman is kidney patient.

On 8th March World Kidney Day was observed across the world with the theme “Kidney Disease and Women’s Health.”

Talking to The Frontier Post Associate Professor Institute of Kidney Disease Hayatabad Peshawar Dr Laqat Ali said that they have so far examine around 1,58,000 patients Outdoor Patient department of kidney in IKD in 2017.

He further added that in 2017 the institute did 2000 dialysis, 5600 surgeries and 15 transplants in IKD, adding that as this year the theme of the day was women and around 0.6 million women every year died from kidney disease.

Associate Professor Institute of Kidney Disease Hayatabad Peshawar Dr. Laqat Ali further informed that across the Globe around 195 million people were suffering from kidney disease, adding that the main failure of kidney is blood pressure and sugar and we should aware the people to control their sugar and BP to protect them from kidney failure.

Assistant Professor for Nephrology Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar talking to The Frontier Post said that in 2017 LRH did around 15000 dialysis, adding that around 20 million people were suffering from kidney disease across Pakistan.

He further said that in one year a patient spend 0.6 million money on dialysis, adding that most of the time when the patients reach to the doctor it was too late for the patients as they were earlier try other things and then it’s too difficult for doctor to then save the life of the patients.

He informed that if we protect our self from kidney disease we should change our life style and give time for exercise and other healthy activities to protect from kidney disease.

Earlier Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar observe World Kidney Day at Auditorium Hall where Professor Dr.Akhtar Ali while giving his presentation said that in every ten women one women is kidney patient across the Globe while in Pakistan from 50-60 age in every four women one women is kidney patients.

He further said that during pregnancy most of the time women kidneys were affected of women, adding that during pregnancy special care should be adopted to prevent kidney failure.

Similarly Khyber Teaching Hospital also observe the day followed by a walk to create awareness regarding Kidney disease.

The walk was attended by Hospital Director Dr Nekdad Khan, Medical Director Prof Dr Rooh-ul-Muqim, Chairman Nephrology Dept Prof Dr Nisar Anwar, Associate Prof Dr Amir Azhar, Asst Prof Dr Ahmad Zeb, In-charge Urology unit KTH Asst Prof Dr Hazrat Ullah and large number of faculty staff, management staff, TMOs’, HOs’, nursing and general public.

Assistant Prof Dr Hazrat ullah said that Urology Unit of KTH in 2017 OPD has examined 4800 patients and conducted 675 surgery procedures within a year.
