Zalmay briefs Ghani regarding his recent trips

KABUL: The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad briefed president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani regarding his recent trips aimed at the revival peace talks with the Taliban.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said Ambassador Khalilzad briefed President Ghani regarding his recent trips to India, China, and United Arab Emirates.

Ambassador Khalilzad has said that the main purpose his recent trips to the regional countries were to establish a regional consensus for the revival of peace talks.

He also added that his trips to the regional countries would continue after concluding his trip in Kabul, according to ARG Palace.

The statement by ARG Palace also added that Ambassador Khalilzad also responded to the questions raised in this regard by the participants of the gathering in the Palace last evening.

First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, members of the governmental negotiations team, and some ohter national and political leaders were also present in the meeting, ARG Palace said.

In his turn, President Ghani hailed Ambassador Khalilzad for his efforts for the revival of peace talks with Taliban and said a national consensus exists regarding peace process in Afghanistan, ARG Palace said, adding that the two sides emphasized on an Afghan-owned peace process. (Khaama Press)
