Zardari rejects PPP-PML-N rifts reports, says PDM on same page to oust PM

KARACHI (TLTP): Rejecting reports of rifts between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that 11-party opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), is on same page in its efforts to topple the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Sending the Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government packing has become indispensable due to its bad governance and incompetence, the former president further said during a telephonic conversation with party leader Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed on Sunday.

Zardari said the country is currently facing multiple challenges due to incompetence of the PTI government and any ‘tragic event’ can occur any time. “Current rulers can make any major blunder which could lead the country towards a catastrophic situation,” he was quoted as saying.

Zardari said the government has failed on all fronts including dealing with Covid-19 pandemic, adding that it could not even ensure timely procurement of vaccines against the deadly virus.

He recalled that he had earlier predicted that the PTI government will “fall under its own weight”. “Now it has fallen, only one last push is required,” he remarked. He maintained that PPP along with PDM will send the government packing.

Differences in approach between the PPP and PML-N to oust the incumbent government emerge, as the parties are divided over whether to bring an in-house change via no-confidence motion or build pressure outside.

A day after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recommended that the opposition should table a no-confidence motion in the parliament, PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal during a press conference on Saturday last said that this is an old recommendation and the tactic did not work during the Senate elections.

He, however, invited Bilawal to share numbers he may have which could lead to a successful vote.

The PML-N secretary-general said there is “only one way” the opposition must take, and that is a “decisive long march” against the government. He said that March is an ideal month for the march.

Earlier on Friday last, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called for bringing a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said that the no-confidence motion will be much more effective than the ongoing PDM rallies.

“Even 10 rallies will not yield the kind of results as a strategy meeting over a cup of tea which is sure to cause the government to break a sweat,” he said.

He said he will speak to the opposition parties to “strike” in the assembly.

“The democratic way to send this incompetent, illegal, unqualified prime minister is through a no-confidence motion,” said the PPP chairman.
