25 Taliban, 7 Daesh insurgents killed in raids

KABUL: Twenty-five Taliban and seven Daesh fighters have been killed in separate drone strikes across the country, officials said on Sunday. Sherin Agha Faqiri, spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Corps in the Eastern Zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News three foreign rebels were killed and a fourth wounded in a drone strike.

The raid by foreign forces occurred in the Ragha locality of the Haska Mena district of Nangarhar province late on Saturday. Separately, two Daesh fighters were killed on Sunday when foreign troops struck their hideout in the Chapa Dara district of neighbouring Kunar province. Daesh has not yet commented on the incidents.

In another raid by foreign forces, 10 Taliban militants were killed and four wounded in the Imam Sahib and Oqtas districts of northern Kunduz province. Niamatullah Timori, the governor’s spokesman, said Maulvi Wakil, a notorious insurgent commander, was also among the dead.

Elsewhere, three Taliban were killed and five others wounded late on Saturday night when they stormed a security checkpoint in Deh Yak district of southern Ghazni province.

In a statement, the provincial police headquarters said a policeman was also killed in the overnight attack.

During a clearing operation, six Taliban rebels, including two notorious commanders, were killed and three other suspects caught alive in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province late on Saturday night.

Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, said the security forces suffered no casualties in the nighttime raid. A civilian was killed in Taliban’s gunfire.

Six Taliban militants were killed in an Afghan Air Force airstrike in the Zurmat locality of the Kharwar district of central Logar province late on Saturday night.

The governor’s spokesman Salem Saleh, said the airstrike targeted a vehicle carrying the Taliban.

The militant group, however, has not yet commented on the incidents.
