36 martyred, 58 hurt in security base attack in Maidan Wardak

KABUL: The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS) has confirmed that 36 security personnel embraced martyrdom and 58 others were wounded in a coordinated attack on a security base in central Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said the suicide bomber managed to breach the security barrier by driving a Humvee armored personnel carrier packed with explosives and detonate it near the main building of the base.

The statement further added that three other militants who were looking to detonate another vehicle-borne improvised explosive device and carry out shooting spree after the first explosion, were shot dead and the car bomb was defused.

According to the National Directorate of Security, at least 36 security personnel embraced martyrdom in the attack and 58 others were wounded with majority of them sustaining minor injuries who were discharged after receiving initial medical care.

The statement also added that the national defense and security forces will stand by side of the nation emphasizing that the perpetrators of the attack would soon be identified and tried for their act. (Khaama Press)
