ACB flays grenade attack on house of Hamid Hassan

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Condemning the grenade attack on the house of fast bowler of the national cricket team Hamid Hassan in Nangarhar, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Tuesday demanded of the Afghan government to provide security to players.

“The ACB believes that it was not a terrorist attack rather it had links with a criminal action. Thieves or criminal elements had demanded money from the family of Hamid Hassan some time ago. They had warned to attack his house if they were not given money. The family of Hamid Hassan had information security agencies of the warning. After two weeks of the threat, Hamid Hassan went to his house. Gunmen attacked his house with hand grenade,” a press release issued by ACB stated.

Terming the attack on the house of Hamid Hassan as an attack on the peaceful games and mega source of entertainment in the country, the ACB condemned the incident in strong words.

The ACB demanded of the security agencies to find the elements involved in the attack and hand them over to the law. The ACB demanded of the security agencies to provide security to Afghan players and board members to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future.

According to Hamid Hassan, he and his family members remained safe in the attack. However, his two vehicles were damaged.

In a live Facebook broadcast, Hamid Hassan urged the president and police chief and governor of Nangarhar to provide security to his family.
