Accountability court declares Ishaq Dar as proclaimed offender in a corruption case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court declared former foreign minister Ishaq Dar a proclaimed offender on Monday after his continuous absence in a corruption case for possessing assets beyond declared sources of income.

Accountability court Judge, Mohammad Bashir announced the decision on Monday as the former finance minister was in London for medical treatment and he skipped the last six hearings in the corruption case.

Ishaq Dar’s counsel submitted the fresh medical report of his client and he demanded from the court to delay the proceeding of declaring Dar proclaimed offender.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB), prosecutor Imran Shafique opposed the request and demanded from the court to declare the former finance minister proclaimed offender.

Accountability court also ordered Ishaq Dar to submit surety bonds within three days otherwise his assets will be seized.

The court has adjourned the hearing till December 20.

On December 4, the court had reserved its verdict regarding officially declaring the former minister a proclaimed offender.

Earlier, on November 21, the court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Dar and declared him an absconder on not attending the court hearings.
