Afghan quake-affectees still live in tents, says OCHA

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says thousands of people whose houses were destroyed in recent floods and earthquake continue to live in tents in Afghanistan.
OCHA wrote on its twitter page these families needed help to rebuild their homes ahead of winter and it should be ensured the families have shelter and roof during winter.
Last month Deputy Disaster Management Minister Maulvi Sharafuddin inaugurated practical work on construction of 1000 houses for earthquake affectees during a visit to Barmal district of southeastern Paktika province.
The houses are being built with financial support of UNHCR. The structures will cost six million dollars and technical work is being carried out by the Agency for Humanitarian and Development Assistance for Afghanistan (AHDAA).
About five months ago, deadly earthquakes rendered thousands of people homeless in Paktika and Khost provinces.
