KABUL (AT) : Companies from Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have sealed at least 10 contracts and two memoranda of understanding, marking significant strides in bilateral economic relations, as announced by the Taliban’s Commerce Ministry.
The agreements, finalized between traders in Herat, span various sectors, including construction materials like steel bars, repair paints, marble, and food products, according to a press release issued by the ministry on Monday.
Nouruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, held discussions with Atageldi, the head of the Union of Traders and Industrialists of Turkmenistan, emphasizing the importance of fostering additional investment in Afghanistan.
Earlier initiatives highlighted by the Ministry include the establishment of a joint logistics center at the port of Torghundi and a trilateral transit pact involving Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
In parallel developments, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan inked export agreements worth $44 million with Afghan traders on Tuesday, April 30.
These engagements occur against the backdrop of Afghanistan grappling with significant economic hardships and escalating unemployment during its two and a half years under Taliban rule.
Reports from the World Food Program underscore the severity of the situation, with one-third of the nation’s populace confronting food insecurity.
