ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court directed the government to provide relief to expatriates in fees of National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) in the current week.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar headed the three-member bench and heard heard a suo motu case regarding the government charging extra fees for NICOP on Monday. Jusitce Ijazul Ahsan and Sajjad Ali Shah also comprised in the bench.
During the hearing, CJP Saqib Nisar said to Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal that the elected members are the important people and they need to lead the public and adding that we are ashamed when people contacts the courts for the solution of their problems.
Ahsan Iqbal replied that he also want to present a matter of public interest in the court seven years for the formation of post graduate college for boys and girls but unfortunately only the boys college has been constructed and the girls college are still pending because of court’s stay order.
CJP remarked that we are not the enemy of government and public, we want to resolve the issues in the better interest of the masses and asked Ahsan Iqbal to give us the number of the stay order case, and it might be possible that we issue directions ourselves.
The CJP directed Iqbal to take the matter of reducing NICOP fees to Prime Minister. He adjourned the hearing while summoning the report till Wednesday.
