Awami Ittehad Alliance falls apart on second day

ISLAMABAD: Several political parties distanced themselves from newly formed political alliance of Awami Ittehad Alliance under the leadership of former dictator General (Rtd) Pervez Musharaf.

On Friday, former president Pervez Musharaf announced formation of Awami Ittehad Alliance of 23 political parties of the country but after one day the formation of the 23 political parties’ alliance, several parties distance themselves from the alliance.

Pakistan Awami Tehrek and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) announced disassociation from the alliance on Saturday after the many of them denied joining the alliance.

Officials of MWM said that the party is only focusing on the recovery of the party missing leader Nasir Shirazi and adding that no one has consulted or contacted us for making the alliance in this regard.

Similarly, Chairman Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Sahibzada Hamid Raza told to media persons that his party is not meant for the upcoming 2018 election and adding that the election politics will be led through a  grand alliance of Ahl-e-Sunnat parties: ‘

Earlier, Musharaf had announced a grand political alliance that would function under the name of Pakistan Awami Ittehad and his leadership.
