Battle with Daesh ends in Marawi city of Philippine: Defense secretary

PHILIPPINES: Defense Secretary, Delfin Lorenzana on Monday claimed that finally the war with Daesh supporters in the southern Philippine was ended after five month, in the favor of security forces.

He added that more than 1,000 people were killed in the five months battle with the extremists group. This he announced on Monday on the sidelines of a regional security meeting in Clark, a northern Philippine city.

He added that all the militants’ group member was killed and now there are no more militants and after the intense final security forces recovered 42 bodies from the area.

Hundreds of armed men who were claiming to be an alliance with the terrorist group Daesh and they started rampage in the city of Marawi on May23 and also took over parts of the city using civilians as human shields.

The Philippine government and security analyst told that the militants were trying to establish a Southeast Asian caliphate in Marawi. The US backed Philippine army started campaign against the extremist group in Marawi in which 1,000 were killed and more than 40,000 residents were displaced and they left the area because of insurgency in Marawi.

US Defense Secretary James Mattis on Monday praised the Philippines for its success in Marawi and appreciated the work of liberating the Marawi from terrorists.
