‘Cases against ousted poll commissioners being probed’

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The Attorney General Office (AGO) on Tuesday said it was investigating 187 cases of electoral crimes involving 386 suspects in 22 provinces of the country.

AGO spokesman Jamshid Rasouli told reporters in Kabul that their investigation against the ousted commissioners of the election bodies was underway.

Soon after their removal, the AGO put names of the former commissioners on the Exist Control List (ECL).

Rasouli said different election crime cases happened in Kunduz, Baghlan, Samangan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Sar-i-Pul, Faryab, Kapisa, Parwan, Logar, Paktika, Paktia, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Herat, Khost, Nimroz, Zabul, Bamyan, Nangarhar, Farah and Kabul provinces.

The offenses included steeling of important materials, hiding ballot papers, buying and selling of Tazera and use of fake electoral stickers, he said.

According to Rasouli, the misuse of authority by the former commissioners of the Independent Election Commission and the Electoral Complaints Commission, including their heads, were seriously investigated.

He said assured the people that these cases were fairly, impartially and independently reviewed in light of the provisions of the law and based on evidence and documents available.

The Wolesi Jirga elections were held on October 20 last year in most parts of the country. (Pajhwok)
