‘Clean and green Pakistan’ drive kicks off in Khyber

LANDI KOTAL: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa planted a sapling to formally inaugurated “clean and green Pakistan” campaign, initiated with assistance of the National Bank here in Shahkas, Jamrud on Thursday.

In this connection an impressive gathering was organized in Levies center, Shahkas, Jamrud that was attended by the governor KP, Shah Farman as chief guest. National Bank chief Miss Saima Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Khyber district Mehmood Aslam, tribal elders, traders and members of civil society were among the participants who joined the moot.

Addressing on the occasion Governor Shah Farman said that as part of the “clean and green Pakistan” 120000 fruit saplings would be planted in Khyber in the drive to grow more useful plants in the area. “Let us join the government in the noble cause and plant extra-trees to safeguard clean and pro-human environment for our next generation”, he urged.

He maintained that with merging of ex-FATA into KP, traditions of the tribesmen would not be perished but would be further strengthen and the Levies force would be converted to police force because the former were well aware of the rites and customs of the tribal. Annually hundred billion rupees would be allocated for the merged tribal districts that would be utilized on recommendations of tribesmen for the uplift of their areas and priority would be granted on rehabilitation of Internal Displaced Persons, Governor Shah Farman argued.

Earlier, the chief guest planted a sapling in the lawn of Jamrud Levies center to open the plantation drive in the Khyber district. It is to be mentioned here that with financial support of National Bank,the plantation drive has been launched in the ex-tribal belt.
