Court sends KDA secretary Aftab Memon on 13-day physical remand

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court on Friday handed over Aftab Memon, close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari, in custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a 13-day physical remand.

The accountability court judge, Muhammad Bashir, also ordered medical check-up of Memon and sought its report in the next hearing.

NAB’s Rawalpindi division arrested Memon from Islamabad earlier in the day in fake bank accounts case and presented him before the accountability court to seek his remand.

Aftab Memon is the secretary of Karachi Development Authority facing charges of illegally allotting 7,000 acres land to frontmen of political personalities.

The NAB told the accountability court that Memon had kept the entire record secret. “It was not possible to acquire all documents without arresting Aftab Memon,” the prosector of NAB informed the court.

The court was told that the accused caused loss to the national exchequer amounting to Rs 800 million.

Memon questioned was he alone nominated in the case. The judge ordered the NAB to include officials involved in land allotting into the investigation.

The NAB told the court that interrogation was underway from other officials concerned.

On the other hand, a banking court of Karachi extended the interim bail till March 11 of former president Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and other accused in a money laundering case.
