JALALABAD: The US forces in Afghanistan carried out an airstrike targeting the Red Unit militants of Taliban in Nangarhar province.
The 201st Silab Corps in a statement said the US drones targeted Taliban’s Red Unit militants in Sherzad district.
The statement further added that the airstrike killed nine Red Unit militants of Taliban.
The 201st Silab Corps also added that two commanders of the group were also among those killed.
The militants were originally hailing from Paktiya province and had recently visited Nangarhar to conduct to terrorist activities.
This comes as the security situation in some districts of Nangarhar has deteriorated during the recent years.
Both Taliban and ISIS militants are active in some districts of the province and often conduct terrorist related activities.
In the meantime, the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations against the anti-government armed groups in this province. The US forces also conduct regular airstrikes in restive parts of the country to suppress Taliban and other anti-government militants.(Khaama Press)
