ISLAMABAD: The Senate will take up the bill on the delimitation of constituencies on Wednesday (today) for the third time after it was failed two times on Friday and Monday’s session because of low attendance of the members.
The delimitation bill will finalized the fresh delimitation of constituencies on the result of provisional results of the latest census for the next election in 2018.
However, the Senate passed the Elections Amendment Bill, 2017 on Friday, related to Khatam-e-Nabuwat clauses for voters.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi demanded help from the opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah for today’s vote in the senate and he promised that he will deliver the message to the party leaders that PM requested support in written.
Earlier in the session on Monday, voting on the bill was adjourned because only 22 members were present in the house and the bill required the presence of 69 members in the house for passing the bill.
As the new delimitation of constituencies, National Assembly seats from Punjab will decrease while Islamabad will get one more seat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa five and Balochistan three more.
