Deputy Interior Minister discusses anti-drug efforts with EU Envoy for Afghanistan

KABUL (BNA): Abdul Haq Hamkar, the Deputy Interior Minister, met with Thomas Nicholson, the European Union Envoy for Afghanistan. During the meeting, as per a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Hamkar discussed the accomplishments and activities of the ministry’s counternarcotic department. He highlighted the decree issued by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) that prohibits all forms of drug cultivation and trafficking in Afghanistan, emphasizing the importance of adhering to this decree. Hamkar also addressed the support, treatment, and education provided for drug addicts in the country. He underscored Afghanistan’s cooperation with the international community in combating drug trafficking and called for global support in Afghanistan’s anti-drug initiatives. Significantly, a recent United Nations report has noted that Afghanistan is no longer the world’s largest producer of narcotics, and drug cultivation and trafficking have considerably decreased in the country.
