Deputy PM to UNAMA head: Sanctions have hindered IEA’s interaction with Int’l community

KABUL (Ariana News): The Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Mawlavi Abdul Kabir met Thursday with Roza Otunbayeva, Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Head of UNAMA, where he said that the continuing sanctions have hindered the Islamic Emirate’s political interaction and understanding with the international community.
The deputy PM’s office said in a statement that Abdul Kabir considered the continuation of sanctions against the IEA “unfair” and emphasized that the current government of Afghanistan has completed all the conditions for recognition. Kabir also said that the seat of Afghanistan in the United Nations should be handed over to the representative of the IEA.
He also asked Otunbayeva to state the realities of Afghanistan at the Doha meeting which is scheduled to be held on February, 18-19.
The statement quoted the head of UNAMA as she said that the world has not forgotten Afghanistan and the Doha meeting is a good opportunity to attract humanitarian aid, ensure the country’s stability and progress.
Otunbayeva stated that the Doha meeting will provide an opportunity for the representative of the IEA to meet and exchange views with the representatives of the countries in bilateral and multilateral meetings.
The Doha meeting is expected to take place on Afghanistan’s situation in less than two weeks convened by the UN and hosted by Qatar.
Although the representative of the IEA has been invited to this meeting, the ruling officials said that they will vote on whether to participate in this meeting or not.
