LANDI KOTAL: First ever a female candidate from Jamrud will contest for provincial assembly election to be scheduled on 20th of July 2019. In PK-106, there are 19 candidates to compete including  Awami National Party (ANP) ticket holder female candidate, NaheedBibi who will contest election at the general seat.

After abolishing of the century old black law, Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) and merging of tribal belt into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, preparation has been finalized to conduct election on 16 seats for provincial assembly of KP. Khyber district has three provincial assembly seats including PK-105, PK-106 and PK-107 and approximately 59 candidates have filed their documents for contest in the three constituencies.

Naheed Bibi, who has done master in Philosophy from University of Peshawar said that ANP was a progressive party and never believed at gender discrimination and it was the reason that she was granted ticket to raise voice for the voiceless especially for the women folk. “Competing election in men dominated society especially in tribal set up where woman is not permitted to take part in active politics is tough job but I have accepted the challenge and will compete the election with support of my relatives, party worker and provincial leadership”, she remarked.

Repaying to a query NaheedBibi said that the government utilizing delay tactics to flee from the election because Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had lost its credibility of its zero percent performance in the merged districts. Response of the voters especially the progressive minded men was encouraging who extended unconditional support to her during door to door campaign she added and saying if elected she would work for the welfare of the women who were the neglected portion of the tribal society.

She urged the election commission to implement code of conduct in word and spirit, stronger and weaker candidates were treated equally and free of fear environment was provided to the voters to elect their representatives.
