Five die as floodwater sweeps away vehicle

HERAT: At least five persons died and another went missing as floodwater swept away a vehicle in western Badghis province on Monday, officials said.

The incident occurred in the Qarchaqi area of Qadas district at approximately 10:00 a.m. (local time) when a driver attempted to drive his vehicle through floodwater, said Sharifuddin Majidi, head of Badghis governor’s office.

He said the floodwater swept away the vehicle as result five persons died and another wounded, adding one person also went missing. He said police arrested driver of the vehicle.

Several areas received rains over the past few days in Afghanistan.
