Gazain Marri released from jail after ATC grants him bail in last case

F.P. Report

QUETTA: Nawabzada Gazain Marri, the son of late Baloch politician Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, was released from district jail Quetta on Wednesday after an anti-terrorism court granted him bail in a case pertaining to his suspected ties with banned militant organizations.

ATC Judge Dawood Nasar approved the bail of the former home minister of Balochistan against a surety bond worth Rs300,000 and ordered his release if he was not required in any other case.

Earlier, the ATC in Sibi had granted him bail in a murder case registered against him in 2004 at Manjara levies station Kohlu.

The case was registered against Marri in 2004 at Manjara levies station Kohlu after a landmine blast in Kohlu’s Mavand tehsil in June 2004 had killed civilians.

Earlier on Sept 25, a district and session court ordered the release of the Baloch leader on bail in a case related to the murder of Justice Nawaz Marri. He was directed to submit a surety bond of Rs1 million to secure his bail.

Justice Nawaz Marri, a Balochistan High Court judge, was shot dead in a targeted attack on January 7, 2000, in Zarghoon road area of Quetta. Gazain Marri, Hyrbayar Marri and others were nominated in the murder case.

Marri was arrested moments after he landed at Quetta airport after his arrival from UAE, ending his self-imposed exile spanning 18 years.

It merits mention here that Mr. Marri had served as the home minister of Balochistan and left for Dubai soon after a military operation was launched in the province against anti-state elements.

Earlier this year, Marri had announced that he would return to the country after the month of Ramazan. “Neither I had any affiliation with any proscribed outfit nor favored the politics of violence,” he had told media in Dubai.
