KABUL: The First Vice President of Afghanistan General Abdul Rashid met with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to hold talks on key national issues including upcoming elections, peace process, and security in northern and northeastern provinces, the Office of the First Vice President said.
According to a statement released by the Office of the First Vice President, the two side discussed the upcoming presidential elections, peace process, and the security situation of in northern and northeastern provinces of the country.
Calling transparent elections in a peaceful environment a vital issue for the country, the two sides emphasized on further empowerment of efforts for peace talks, the statement added.
According to Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC), the presidential elections would be organized on 20th of July 2019.
In the meantime, efforts are underway to launch direct talks with the Taliban group in a bid to end the 17-year long war and violence in the country. (Khaama Press)
