KABUL: President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani has said that peace would be restored with the sword and power of the security forces in Afghanistan.

Addressing the conclusion ceremony held to evaluate the one-year efficacy of special police units of interior ministry on Thursday, President Ghani said the nation wanted peace. However, peace could not be restored with weakness rather it would be brought with the sword and power of the security forces, he added.

The government would not beg for peace in the presence of security forces, he said. The country was not in weak position, he added.

“We want respectable peace in which the security forces have the place set by the law, and for which I have made investment,” he said.

No one could disrespect the Afghan security and defence forces, President Ghani said, adding that they were the protectors of the dignity and status of the country.

The security forces were professional, national and non-political, he maintained.

He went on to say that every person raising weapons against the government was the enemy of the country and would be eliminated.

The president said he was not among those people who termed a person as friend one day and declared the same person as enemy the other day. He said his definition about enemy was clear. Their actions proved that they were enemies, he maintained.

Such gatherings were important for the professional training and reduced casualties of security forces, he said. The president directed the officials of security and defence forces to give top priority towards reducing casualties of troops in the next year. More investment would be made in the special police units, he said, adding that they had important role to protect the lives of people and national police personnel.

On the occasion, the president allotted promotion to senior interior minister for security Khushal Sadaat. Similarly, two police officials of special police units including Ziaul Haq and Raaz Muhammad were given medals for their efficiency.
