Governor gives degrees to 160 graduates of ICU

PESHAWAR: As many as 160 graduates including PhD, M.Phill, Masters and Bachelors were awarded degrees in various disciplines on Tuesday by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on eve of 5th convocation of Islamia College University.

The 5th convocation was held in the historic Rose Keppel Hall of institution wherein a great number of students, parents of graduates, faculty members, head of different education institutions, vice-chancellor of Islamia College University and others were present on the occasion.

However, 85 female graduates, 75 male, 15 M.Phill scholars, 04 PhD and 30 among them got gold medals for achieving positions in their disciplines. As 12 professors also secured gold medals for supervising PhD graduates in their subjects.

While addressing participants on the occasion, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, has said that Islamia College University after becoming a public sector varsity in 2008, has faced new challenges and it has got unique status at national and international level. He hoped the varsity would maintain the flow of successes and accomplishments in forthcoming time as well.

While felicitating the management of varsity for establishing four new centers of graduate study including Center of Industrial Innovation (I.T), Center for Omic Sciences; Center of Material Research and Center for Gandhara Study at Islamia College, saying that indeed these are some of the new milestones towards new horizons which would open new avenues of development in the region.

Mr Jhagra told fresh graduates to play their due role for betterment and improvement of their beloved country so that it could move forward on the track of development and prosperity.

The Governor also pointed out that there can never be any substitute to quality in all respects and this cherished objective in respect of education can only be achieved if it is supplemented by character building of students. The parents, he added, must inculcate in the mind of the future generation that we all have tremendous responsibility of steering this nation towards a safe, secure and prosperous future.

While congratulating the graduates for completing their studies at historic institution of the province, he reminded that their parents are major stakeholders in their successes and thus the credit also goes to them. I think the accomplishment of degrees was made possible with support, encouragement and devotion of their parents, he added.

At the commencement of program, the Professor Dr. Habib Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of the University, presented an annual report and highlighted the achievements of the institution.
