F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: United Nation Development Project (UNDP) Pakistan in collaboration with FPCCI conducted a stakeholders’ conference on green jobs for youth and women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday.

The stakeholder conference was organized for fostering the development of green jobs for youth and women of KP in three major sectors namely eco-tourism, textile industry and renewable energy in which important personalities of business community, civil society and young entrepreneurs participated.

On this occasion, UNDP Consultant Ahsan Hamid Durrani gave a detailed presentation on these three areas. He said that green job does not mean that we are neglecting the traditional fields but the purpose of green job is to create new opportunities for the youth in these three fields especially considering the climate change.

Ahsan Hamid Durrani also reviewed the huge gap in the ratio of men to women in different fields, saying that we cannot make progress without the participation of women in every sphere of life. Other participants also demanded that the government subsidize the solar energy sector and make it accessible to as many people as possible, as well as reduce taxes on solar energy.

The participants suggested training the youth in the field of tourism and keeping the tourist spots free from pollution and plastics.

On the occasion, the women participants said that there was an urgent need to harness the potential of women in the province, especially in the field of handicrafts to encourage women and give them modern technological skills to access the direct market. Besides, other women also need to be brought forward in the fields of handicrafts etc. This will not only give a boost to tourism but also protect the environment, they added.
