Growers to get free tractors, equipment

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock on Wednesday promised providing free tractors and cultivation equipment to farmers in 24 provinces of the country.

The decision came at a meeting, chaired by Minister Nasir Ahmad Durrani, and attended by provincial directors of agriculture, a statement from the ministry said.

It added the directors were ordered to provide equipment free of charge to all deserving farmers.

Tractors would be provided in time to growers cultivating rain-fed areas.

The ministry has currently 297 tractors for delivery to farmers in the 24 provinces, with another 172 on standby in Kabul. The tractors in Kabul will also be used in case of need.

Meanwhile, the minister directed the provincial directors to provide all necessary materials to the farmers.
