Immediate launch of e-NICs process urged

JALALABAD: Some youths and civil society activists in eastern Nangarhar province asked the government to immediately launch the distribution of electronic National Identity Cards (e-NICs), saying further delay in the process was not in the country’s interest.

Addressing reporters here, Youth Affairs Director Matiullah Ahmadzai, said demanded immediate launch of e-NIC distribution and said further delay in the process was not in the interest of Afghans. He said once distributed, the new e-NIC could help improve the security situation, could boost the economy and help the conduct of transparent polls in the country.

Noor Ahmad Noorani, a civil society activist, said: “We ask the government to start the distribution of e-NICs as soon as possible and said there was no major issue that could halt the distribution of e-NICs except the busy schedule of the president.

Najeebullah Khairkhwa, another civil society activist, said the launch of NICs was crucial issue for common people and steps for its immediate launch should be taken.

He also stressed that the security issues would be resolved with the distribution of e-NIC. The distribution of e-NIC was being stopped due to deadlock between the lawmaker over amendment of article six of the Census Law.
