Hamid Karzai meets with Norwegian Charge d’affaires

KABUL (Ariana News): Paul Klouman Bekken, Norway’s charge d’affaires to Afghanistan, met with former president Hamid Karzai on Wednesday to discuss the current situation in the country.
In the meeting, Bekken discussed the need to reopen schools and universities for girls.
Karzai in turn said national understanding was necessary for lasting peace and stability in the country.
Also in a separate meeting with the Acting Minister of Economy, Din Mohammad Hanif, Bekken assured the Islamic Emirate of his country’s continued assistance in terms of humanitarian aid for the people of Afghanistan.
The Acting Minister of Economy said that with the provision of all-round security in Afghanistan, safety has been provided for aid distribution and development across all areas of the country.
Afghan experts consider aid being provided by the international community as being effective in gradually reducing poverty, but they say once restrictions on women’s work and education are removed, more aid will flow to the country.
Norway meanwhile is one of few countries that maintains relations with the Islamic Emirate and hosts meetings about Afghanistan. It also sends in humanitarian aid from time to time.
