LAHORE: Rana Sanaullah, Punjab Law Minister has said that Supreme Court should have accepted the unconditional apology.
This he said while commenting on the decision of apex court on Thursday after Supreme Court awarded one-month jail term to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nehal Hashmi on contempt charges.
He added that in the apex court traditionally forgiven whoever asks for an unconditional apology. He recalled that PTI leader Babar Awan also openly ridiculed the judiciary but he was forgiven after he sought an unconditional apology.
However, Nehal Hashmi was not given the forgiveness despite that he tendered an unconditional apology, Sanaullah added.
He added that criticizing decisions is a democratic right of any person.
Regarding PTI Chief Imran Khan, minister added that he was declared Sadiq and Ameen. Is it not my right to criticize this? Sanaullah questioned.
The court also ruled that Hashmi stands disqualified from holding public office for a period of five years according to Article 63(1)(g) of the Constitution.
