Helicopter crash: Saudi prince killed near Yemen border

RIYADH: A Saudi prince and several other officials were killed when a helicopter crashed near the Saudi-Yemen border on Sunday.

The Yemen State Television reported that the death of Prince Mansour bin Moqren, the deputy governor of Asir Province along with other officials were taking a tour of an area near the coast in Asir near Yemen border.

The media reported that on late Sunday, the helicopter went off the radar and initiatially it was unknown how many people were on board when it crashed. However, it did not reveal the cause of the crash or the fate of the other officials aboard the aircraft.

The Prince Mansour was the son of Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – who was the crown prince of Saudi Arabia from January to April in 2015.

Prince Mansour married to a daughter of Prince Saud bin Fahd Al Saud in 2013 and two years later he was appointed Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque as a minister.

The helicopter crash news cones after Saudi Arabia arrested dozens of high ranks officials and members of royal family and ministers in corruption allegations but the critics persisted that the step was taken to cement the power of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

The Saudi Arabia also intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile near Riyadh’s international airport after it was fired from Yemen area in the control of Iran backed Huthi rebels.
