House-searching sparks local, global reactions

KABUL (Tolo News): The house-to-house searching by Islamic Emirate forces has provoked domestic and global reactions, the Chargé d’Affaires of the UK Mission to Afghanistan, Hugo Shorter said, adding that he is deeply concerned about the clearing operations across Kabul and beyond. In a series of tweets, Hugo Shorter said that house searches, intimidation, arrests and violence are totally unacceptable and must stop immediately.
“I call on the Taliban to clarify their remarks urgently. The world is still watching the Taliban’s behavior. Such actions undermine both commitments to the international community and the trust of Afghans,” he tweeted. This comes as house-to-house searches started five days ago in the capital and were reportedly launched in other provinces including Parwan, Kapisa and Baghlan.
Officials of the Islamic Emirate announced that house-to-house searches have been launched to improve security for citizens. “In the capital city of Pulkhomri, they searched the houses of people in some areas of the city; of course, this created concerns among residents,” said Zahra Karimi, a resident of Baghlan province.
“They searched my house, I was never a member of the military or worked in the government. I am one of the poor persons of the society,” said Wazir Mohammad, a resident of Kabul. An official of the clearing operation said teams seized various weapons during the five days in Kabul. “We seized 170 pistols in the past days. These weapons were used in killings and robberies,” said Naseer Ahmad Ahmadi, the commander of Kabul Police District 11.
