HPC: Foreign troops exit linked to intra-Afghan talks

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The High Peace Council (HPC) said it welcomed every effort that could lead to peace in Afghanistan, adding foreign troop drawdown was linked with progress in Kabul-Taliban direct talks.

The HPC in a statement said it has been working to pave the ground for peace and reconciliation and thus closely watched every event which could facilitate intra-Afghan talks and advance the reconciliation process.

The peace body’s reaction comes after participants of two days of talks in Moscow issued a joint statement, calling for a complete withdrawal of foreign forces and asked regional countries to stop interfering in internal affairs of the war-torn country.

The HPC said it supported every move which could strengthen unity and mutual acceptance as its responsibility, but would reject any move which could harm the national consensus. The body said the presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan was based on necessity and their pullout was linked to direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

The High Peace Council said it carefully read the discussion and the joint statement of the Moscow meeting and would consider points which were in the interest of the people of Afghanistan and the country.

“The High Peace Council (HPC) considers demands and concerns of the people of Afghanistan and believes this its responsibility to resolve them through every way possible.” (Pajhwok)
