IHC dismisses Hijazi’s petitions

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday turned down two petitions of former chairman of Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Zafar Hijazi seeking dismissal of record tampering case against him.

Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani announced the judgment that was earlier reserved on the pleas filed by Hijazi challenging record tempering charges against him.

During the last proceeding on March 7, the bench reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides at large.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had also submitted its reply to the court in response of the accused petitions.

In one petition, Zafar Hijazi had challenged the special court’s judgment of November 10, 2017, requesting to set aside the trial court’s order and acquit him from the case.

In the other petition, the accused had prayed the court to quash the FIR against him in a case pertaining to tampering record of Chaudhary Sugar Mills. He adopted the stance that other SECP officials were allegedly involved and had falsely blamed him to save their skins. It may be mentioned here that the FIA had lodged a record tampering case against former chairman SECP on the directives of apex court.
