Indus Hospital launches ambitious Ramazan drive

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Over two hundred esteemed guests gathered at the Indus Hospital, Korangi Campus, Karachi, to witness the unveiling of the Indus Hospital and Health Network’s (IHHN) Ramazan Campaign 2024. The audience comprised media and government officials, IHHN’s valued donors, senior leadership, and various staff members. The objective of the Ramazan Campaign 2024 is to mobilize resources to sustain Pakistan’s largest private healthcare network.

Salim Razzak Tabani, Chairman of the Fundraising Committee of IHHN’s Board of Directors, opened the event with remarks emphasizing the organization’s vision and mission to provide free, indiscriminate, and quality healthcare to the people of Pakistan and beyond. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support received from government and private partners, donors, corporates, media, youth volunteers, and ambassadors. Mr. Tabani appealed for support in making the Ramazan Campaign 2024 a beacon of hope for numerous patients in need.

Syed Mashhood Rizvi, Chief of Staff to the President and Executive Director of Communications and Resource Development at IHHN, provided insights into the crucial role IHHN plays as the nation’s necessity, encompassing 10 hospitals, 4 regional blood centers, 3 physical rehabilitation clinics, 38 primary care sites, and various public health initiatives across Pakistan..

In a detailed briefing, Mr. Rizvi highlighted the multifaceted role of IHHN within the community, emphasizing its expansive reach beyond traditional hospital functions. He underscored the enduring bond between the community and IHHN, emphasizing inclusivity across all age groups in actively participating and contributing to the institution’s collective well-being. Particularly, Rizvi acknowledged the pivotal role of the media in IHHN’s journey, highlighting its importance. He introduced the ‘Media Ambassador Program’ (MAP), an initiative exclusively for media persons to join and actively contribute to IHHN’s cause.

Acknowledging the healthcare challenges in Pakistan, he noted that over 400,000 households fall into poverty annually due to health expenditures, resulting in preventable deaths, especially among children and women. Despite challenges, IHHN serves over 500,000 patients monthly, with more than 70% benefiting from Zakat.

Rizvi went on to emphasize the catastrophic impact of the previous year’s economic turmoil on the healthcare sector particularly in terms of the exorbitant costs of care IHHN was faced with such as a 30% increase in the cost of lifesaving medicine.

Heartbreakingly, these are not just mere numbers and rather, represent precious lives which are left destroyed. As such, Mr. Rizvi introduced IHHN’s ambitious Ramazan target of PKR 4.5 billion. He stressed the dire need for openhearted generosity from Indus’ community and beyond to address the urgent need of free of cost, high quality healthcare for the most deserving communities of Pakistan. Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, President of Indus Hospital & Health Network, expressed gratitude for the journey that has made IHHN a nationwide network. He thanked the Almighty for the success seen and the positive impact on countless patients’ lives. While acknowledging the challenging financial times, Dr. Khan urged continued support for Indus.

During the event, Dr. Abdul Bari Khan also unveiled IHHN’s Ramazan Campaign Ad/TVC, which beautifully captured IHHN’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare services to communities across the country. The ad highlights how IHHN goes beyond basic healthcare services and takes care of patients’ psychosocial, rehabilitation, food, and nutritional needs as well.

In addition to the ad, the IHHN team had set up stalls to display some of their extraordinary work at the event. One of the many Mobile Health Units that go to the remotest areas in Pakistan, improving health equity for many, was also parked at the event. This unit is one of the many ways that Indus Hospital is committed to providing healthcare services to underserved communities in Pakistan.

The ceremony concluded with a mass prayer for the success of the Ramazan Campaign 2024.
